Episode 30. Bravely Putting Family First with Melissa Caballero Alton
Imagine you're on maternity leave, bathing your newborn baby in the sink, and you get a multiple calls from your boss. He needs to be briefed on an issue before a meeting the next day. He then gets mad and berates you for not picking up those calls, all while you're on unpaid maternity leave. That's just what happened to Melissa Caballero Alton during maternity leave with her first son.
She decided enough was enough. She left her firm and started her own when her first son was only 2.5 months old.
She doesn't believe lawyer moms should have to choose their work over their families. Burned-out, over-worked, stressed-out employees are not good for anyone. She has built a life and a schedule to intentionally put her family first. This is how she finds joy and balance. The way she's been able to do this is by owning her own law firm and choosing her practice areas thoughtfully.
Melissa won't choose a case or a client over her family. She boldly and bravely tells her clients that she is a dedicated advocate, will help them solve their problems, AND that her family comes first. She thoughtfully selects the cases and the clients she takes, to create the work-life balance she wants.
Melissa is also a huge supporter of other lawyer moms with her social media profiles, blog, YouTube videos, and Facebook group, all called The Objectionable Mom.
Listen and get inspired to build a life that works for you.
